The "Researchers' Night - SuperScienceMe" (UNICAL, September 26, 2014)
On friday the 26th of September 2014, the "Researchers’s Night - SuperScienceMe" took place in the Campus of the University of Calabria. The event allowed everyone to get knowledge about the University of Calabria and to better understand how the work of researchers concerns the daily life of each person. The slogan was: "research in your reach"; i.e., the research has to be completely accessible and not exclusive for only few people. The Liaison Office of the University, responsible for projects and programs regarding the promotion of cultural, social and economic development of the entire region, coordinated the initiative with the assistance of all the departments.
The event provided a program full of demonstrations, experiments, lab tours, shows, art, music and sport events, games for children, etc., which have made the Campus of Arcavacata like a big, friendly and exciting knowledge place, open to the public, particularly to students. About 10.000 visitors of all ages participated, with a wide ages range.
The initiative also included the presence of "EU Corners", particular areas where research related to initiatives inserted in the FP7 (Seventh Framework Program) for research and innovation were presented, with a special attention to testimonies of researchers involved in "Marie Sklodowska-Curie" actions.
Among these, researchers involved in the DEMETRA project explained in detail their work, the already obtained results and the foreseen next steps.
